Dienstag, 30. April 2024 – Porto
Dieser Tag gehört Porto. Leider wird unsere Wanderung durch die Stadt immer wieder von Regen unterbrochen. Was aber nicht so schlimm ist. Der erste Regenschauer erwischt und auf halben Weg in die historische Altstadt, Höhe des Pavilhão Rosa Mota. Zusammen mit ein paar Pfauen warten wir unter dem Vordach, dass es aufhört.
Die Altstadt selbst erkunden wir ohne Karte. Die liegt nämlich im Hotelzimmer. Wir stoppen hier und da: Igreja do Carmo, Igreja e Torre dos Clérigos, Bahnhof São Bento, Câmara Municipal de Porto, Marcado do Bolhão, Igreja Praoquial de Santo Ildefonso (diese portugisischen Namen haben echt was dramatisches) und Sé do Porto.
This day belongs to Porto. Unfortunately, our walk through the city is repeatedly interrupted by rain. But that’s not so bad. The first rain shower catches us halfway into the historic old town, at the height of the Pavilhão Rosa Mota. Together with a few peacocks, we wait under the canopy for it to stop.
We explore the old town itself without a map. It’s in the hotel room. We stop here and there: Igreja do Carmo, Igreja e Torre dos Clérigos, São Bento train station, Câmara Municipal de Porto, Marcado do Bolhão, Igreja Praoquial de Santo Ildefonso (there’s something really dramatic about these Portuguese names) and Sé do Porto.
Am dem Weg von der Sé do Porto zur Brücke Ponte Dom Luís I kehren wir in dem kleinen Weinlokal Arco das Verdades ein. Dann geht es erst an der Promenade am Nordufer entlang (inkl. Stopp für einen Aperol Sprizz, da wieder einmal ein Regenschauer) und dann über die Brücke auf die Südseite des Douro. Hier haben die großen Portwein-Häuser ihre Lager.
Wir entscheiden uns für ein Tasting bei Porto Cruz. Bis in die Dämmerung schlendern wir danach noch am Südufer entlang. Zurück auf die Nordseite geht dann wieder über die Ponto dom Luís I , dieses Mal auf der oberen Ebene, oberhalb des Bogens, wo auch die Straßenbahn fährt. Ach ja. Wie haben am ganzen Tag keine einzige Straßenbahn gesehen.
On the way from the Sé do Porto to the Ponte Dom Luís I bridge, we stop off at the small wine bar Arco das Verdades. Then we first walk along the promenade on the north bank (including a stop for an Aperol Sprizz, as there is another rain shower) and then cross the bridge to the south side of the Douro. This is where the big port wine houses have their warehouses.
We decide on a tasting at Porto Cruz. We then stroll along the south bank until dusk. We return to the north side via the Ponto dom Luís I, this time on the upper level, above the arch where the streetcar also runs. By the way. We didn’t see a single streetcar all day.
Auf der Nordseite ist der letzte Stopp des Tages das chinesische Restaurant „Restaurante Chinês“ (ja, es ist ein sehr kreativer Name), wo wir einen Stapel Vorspeisen und Orange Duck bestellen. Zurück zum Hotel geht es dann mit einem Taxi.
On the north side, the last stop of the day is the Chinese restaurant „Restaurante Chinês“ (yes, it’s a very creative name), where we order a stack of starters and orange duck. We then take a cab back to the hotel.
